Longmont Police said a 42-year-old man suspected of sexual assault on two women surrendered to officers around 5:41 p.m. today after an afternoon standoff with SWAT officers at an apartment complex.
Tim Lewis, commander of Longmont Police’s detective division, said the two women reported to police around 1:15 p.m. that they had been assaulted at an apartment in the 3200 block of Lake Park Way and that the alleged assailant, Jimmy Travis, still was in the apartment and had a firearm and possible “military ordnance.”
The women had gone to the apartment around midnight Friday and were held captive until they were able to escape and notify police about the assault, Lewis said.
Other residents of the Circle at Lake Shore apartments were evacuated during the standoff between police and Travis. They were not allowed back until about 8:30 p.m. after the Boulder County Bomb Squad had removed ordnance from the apartment, Lewis said.
Lewis said Travis has been charged with two counts of first degree kidnapping, two counts of first degree sexual assault, two counts of second degree assault and two counts of felony menacing.
The Longmont police spokesman said the two women had been treated by medical personnel and released.
