FORT WORTH, Texas — Colorado State senior safety Klint Kubiak, who came into the weekend leading the defense with 48 tackles, wanted to play his final season without an injury.
Kubiak underwent surgery last week for a torn pectoral muscle. CSU coach Steve Fairchild said it likely will end his career.
Ivory Herd made his first career start in Kubiak’s place.
Kubiak broke into the lineup as a true freshman in 2005 but missed 2007 for a medical hardship and half of last season with a variety of ailments.
Kubiak’s departure was not announced until 90 minutes before the game. Earlier in the week, it was announced that younger brother, third-team quarterback Klay Kubiak, had surgery for a chronic shoulder ailment.

BCS numbers.
The BCS standings debuts today. Obviously, TCU coach Gary Patterson is very much aware. He has said all year he wasn’t interested in running up scores to impress pollsters, just winning.
“When you hold somebody under 200 yards, that’s not good enough for some people. If 44 points isn’t enough for some people, what do you do?” Patterson said.
