In addition to raising money to help African mountain gorillas, the Denver Gorilla Run aspires to win an official Guinness World Record for “Most people dressed as gorillas in one location.” To succeed, they’ll need more than 637 people in gorilla costumes. Registration ($100 for adults, $50 for children) for the 5.6-kilometer run includes your own gorilla suit to keep.

Colorful cairns, the man-made stone mounds that mark mountain trails, inspire this year’s community art project at YMCA of the Rockies. Bring a rock, or choose one from the Craft & Design Center collection, pay a $5 to $10 studio and materials fee. Then paint it, and add your work to one of the bright cairns, which will remain permanently in front of the arts center.
