The Kaiser is a dandy transition from traditional Oktoberfest beers to the heavier brews of winter. Unlike a regular O-fest, it pours a cloudy deep copper with an off-white head. Sweet Vienna and Munich malts seize the aroma, with a puff of alcohol following. Roasted caramel hits the tongue, and the alcohol — 9.3 percent by volume — warms the throat. It finishes with a gentle hop kiss. Body is medium, and the booze will keep you from drinking too fast. That’s a good thing, as one of these bombers should be all you’ll need.
