SAN FRANCISCO — Internet advertising is projected to have 19 percent, or nearly $87 billion, of the worldwide ad market in 2013, up from 4 percent, or about $18 billion, in 2004, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers and Wilkofsky Gruen Associates. That would make the Internet the third-largest marketing medium. TV is expected to remain on top at 36 percent, with newspapers still No. 2 but down from 28 percent in 2004 to 20 percent in 2013.
