BRIGHTON, Colo.—Prosecutors say a man accused of killing a code enforcement officer during a routine apartment inspection in Aurora was seen running from the building with a gun, but the man’s attorney says it’s a case of mistaken identity.
The trial of 23-year-old Harry Williams is expected to last a week. He faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of 40-year-old Rodney Morales on Nov. 13.
Adams County prosecutors said Tuesday that one of Morales’ colleagues who was outside the apartment complex heard a “bang” before seeing a man matching Williams’ description running with a gun.
Williams’ attorney, Scott Evans, said in opening arguments that prosecutors have the wrong man and no motive for the shooting.
