FORT LUPTON, Colo.—Weld County authorities have arrested a 16-year-old boy in a fatal shooting apparently sparked by a fight over the victim’s dogs.

Sheriff’s officials are seeking 51-year-old Jose Rodriguez of Fort Lupton. He and the boy both face charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

Forty-three-year-old Hugo Botello-Gonzalez was fatally shot outside his home Wednesday near Fort Lupton. His wife was wounded but is expected to recover.

Authorities say the shooting appears to be part of an ongoing fight between Botello-Gonzalez and his neighbor over Botello-Gonzalez’s two pit bulls. The shooting came three days after the dogs were removed from his home after complaints they killed some chickens and harassed horses.
