Getting your player ready...

WASHINGTON — As Redskins players filed into the locker room following Friday’s practice, most hadn’t heard that Vinny Cerrato, the team’s executive vice president of football operations, had stated publicly that Jim Zorn would finish the season as Washington’s coach.

Told of the news, linebacker London Fletcher smiled and pumped his first.

“Wow,” he said. “Finally, some good news around here.”

It has been a difficult few weeks for the Redskins, the team’s struggles on the field intimately tied to the uncertainty off of it.

But in assuring Zorn that he would have his job for at least the remainder of the season, the front office has sought to stabilize a team that was awash in confusion and drama.

Goodell: It’s a jolly good show

LONDON — Commissioner Roger Goodell expects the league to start playing multiple regular-season games in Britain in the next few years — an expansion that could lead to putting a franchise in London.

Goodell said that “every indicator” shows the British market can support more games and that having a franchise here is of “tremendous interest” to the league. But he stopped short of giving a timeline for expanding the NFL’s overseas presence.

Staging a Super Bowl abroad, however, “is not something that is under active consideration,” Goodell said.

Wright OK after crash

CLEVELAND — Browns cornerback Eric Wright was back at practice hours after flipping his car on a wet highway entrance ramp. He may play Sunday against Green Bay.

Wright rolled his car early Friday when his vehicle slid on wet pavement. He was examined and released at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Footnotes.

Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin is questionable for Sunday’s game at the Giants after going through a limited practice.

• Bears defensive tackle Tommie Harris was listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Bengals because of a left knee injury.

• Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game at Pittsburgh with a sprained right foot.

• Steelers safety Troy Polamalu has returned to practice after sitting out two days to rest his still-healing left knee.

• Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco was fined $10,000 for wearing the wrong colored chin strap (black) last Sunday.
