Say it ain’t Joe? The most-watched series would have featured former Yankees manager Joe Torre bringing his Dodgers to New York. The best series? The Phillies vs. the Yankees.
The Phillies are trying to become only the fourth National League team to win back-to- back titles. The Yankees are looking for their 27th championship in their 40th World Series appearance.
Both teams have led their respective leagues in runs and home runs in the regular season and playoffs.
A look at keys to each team winning this World Series:
For the Phillies
• Cliff Lee must remain terrific and Cole Hamels needs to pitch like somebody other than a fifth starter.
• Jayson Werth and Carlos Ruiz must keep slugging, turning the Phillies into a deep, AL-type lineup.
For the Yankees
• Alex Rodriguez must get help — never thought we’d say that in the postseason — from Mark Teixeira.
• A.J. Burnett has to avoid a meltdown in the spotlight, giving the Yankees a 1-2 punch with CC Sabathia.
