GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Eight employees were fired or resigned from the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department over a 17-month period after allegations of misconduct.
The department’s records show misconduct included misuse of sick time, improper off-duty association with a former inmate, lying during an internal investigation of harassment and having a driver’s license suspended or revoked.
The information was provided to The Daily Sentinel in Grand Junction last week in response to a request under the Colorado Open Records Act. The records include a summary of 26 instances of confirmed misconduct by sheriff’s employees from Jan. 1, 2008, to Aug. 31, 2009.
