Federal prosecutors and a defense lawyer for Mohammed Wali Zazi are asking a federal judge to delay his Dec. 7 trial in Denver because the case involves classified information and more time is needed before both sides are ready to proceed.

Zazi, 53, who is under electronic monitoring, is charged with lying to the FBI during voluntary questioning into the activities of his son, Najibullah Zazi.

Prosecutors also note that classified information may be presented as the case makes its way through the court system, and the information will have to be protected in the name of national security.

The son is charged with conspiring to use weapons of mass destruction and is accused of attending an al-Qaeda training camp in Pakistan to learn to make bombs.

The younger Zazi also is accused of purchasing beauty supplies that contain chemicals used in bombmaking and testing them out before a trip to New York City on the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
