Freshman guard Shannon Sharpe will have microfracture surgery and will miss the entire season, Colorado men’s basketball coach Jeff Bzdelik said Wednesday.
Sharpe injured his left knee during preseason workouts and will undergo the procedure next week.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound guard from Corona, Calif., is one of four true freshmen on the 2009-10 roster.
Sharpe, who did not play high school basketball last season, spent a prep year at Laurinburg Institute in North Carolina. At Centennial (Calif.) High School, he averaged 17.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, 7.7 assists and 3.2 steals per game in 2007-08 season.
Buffs fall to Sooners in volleyball.
Rosie Steinhaus had nine kills and Kerra Schroeder added eight, but the University of Colorado volleyball team fell to Oklahoma in three games in a Big 12 Conference match at Norman, Okla. The Sooners (14-7, 7-5) defeated the Buffaloes (6-15, 1-11) 25-20, 25-12, 25-16.

The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League signed veteran forward Jason Deleurme and placed rookie forward Shane Foster on the 14-day injured reserve list.
N.M. Highlands men’s hoops picked to win RMAC.
The New Mexico Highlands men’s basketball team will win the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, according to a poll of the league’s 14 head coaches. Highlands was picked to win the West Division and earned the No. 1 spot overall. Metro State was tabbed to win the East Division. Fort Lewis’ DeAndre Lansdowne was the preseason player of the year.
Fort Lewis gets RMAC women’s hoops nod.
Fort Lewis’ Allison Rosel was named the preseason RMAC player of the year and the Skyhawks women’s basketball team was picked to win the league in a poll of head coaches. Fort Lewis will win the West Division, according to the coaches, and Colorado Mines was tabbed to win the East Division.
