CANON CITY, Colo.—A man convicted of murder in the shooting of his girlfriend’s estranged husband has been sentenced to life in prison, plus 14 years.

Andrew Tanner was sentenced Monday in the death of 37-year-old James Durgan of Salida in July 2008.

The 23-year-old was convicted in September of multiple charges including first-degree murder with deliberation and intent. He was accused of shooting Durgan in the head three times and dumping his body in a river.

Tanner is the third person sentenced in Durgan’s death.

Durgan’s estranged wife, Kristin Durgan, received a 54-year prison sentence earlier this year. Brian Folsom, who was accused of kidnapping James Durgan, received a 48-year sentence.

Both testified in Tanner’s trial.
