TUSCALOOSA, Ala.—The West Alabama Narcotics Task Force says former Alabama running back Santonio Beard was among 22 people arrested in a massive drug sweep.

The 29-year-old Beard is accused of selling cocaine to undercover police officers three times.

The task force commander, Capt. Jeff Snyder, says Beard is also charged with first-degree possession of marijuana after officers found small bags of the drug when they arrested him at a motel on Wednesday.

Beard was arrested in September 2008 after a Tuscaloosa police officer stopped him and found cocaine and marijuana in his car. The Tuscaloosa News says court records show that case is scheduled for a jury trial in February.

The Nashville, Tenn. native lettered for the Crimson Tide in 2001 and 2002 and left after his junior year. He signed a free agent contract with the Denver Broncos, but was released after the 2004 season.
