NORFOLK, Neb.—A man arrested in Norfolk on suspicion of a beating death in Colorado has refused to waive extradition.

The Madison County sheriff’s office say 28-year-old Jayson Oslund appeared Thursday afternoon in county court. A public defender was assigned to his case.

Oslund was arrested Wednesday on an arrest warrant for first-degree murder issued in Pueblo, Colo.

He’s accused of beating 18-year-old Matt Maez on Sept. 5. Maez died more that a week later of head trauma.

A message left with the Madison County public defender’s office was not immediately returned.
