Fireworks lit up parts of the capital to mark 1,000 days before the 2012 London Olympics begin. As part of several events across the city Saturday, the BT Tower in central London was illuminated by a fireworks display as its giant screen flashed the landmark figure. With construction underway on the main stadium, velodrome, aquatics center, basketball arena, media center and athletes’ village, London organizers say it has met all its targets.
