A short, off-year mail-in ballot led to low turnout in Jefferson County, according to Deputy of Elections Josh Liss.
Early results showed voters were not inclined to extend the term limits of the 1st Judicial District attorney and other government officials, such as the sheriff, county clerk and treasurer.
The ballot question proposed extending the term limits of the offices for another four years, with a maximum of three terms or 12 years.
District Attorney Scott Storey said: “My victory personally is getting it on the ballot to allow people to make a decision.
“Obviously the voters have spoken, but I am comfortable with the outcome. I have three years left and a lot of work to do,” he said.
Two of the three school-board races were too close to call. Jefferson County Public Schools is the state’s largest school district.
