Getting your player ready...

LINCOLN, Neb.—Nebraska offensive coordinator Shawn Watson says he’ll continue to coach from the sidelines rather than the press box the rest of the season because the Cornhuskers are playing so many young players.

Watson was on the sideline for Saturday’s 20-10 win at Baylor because freshman Cody Green was starting for the first time at quarterback.

After Tuesday’s two-hour practice in full pads, Watson said it’s easier to call plays from the press box, but he feels the younger players need him nearby for face-to-face coaching in games.

In addition to Green, freshmen who started or had significant playing time were running backs Dontrayevous Robinson and Lester Ward, receiver Khiry Cooper and tight ends Kyler Reed and Ben Cotton.

Watson said he gets plenty of help from two assistants in the press box, receivers coach Ted Gilmore and running backs coach Tim Beck.
