A 42-year-old man walking on South Parker Road who was hit and killed last night by a 17-year-old driver has been identified.

Steven Green, of Denver, was hit at about 7 p.m. Wednesday near South Lansing Street, on a dark section of South Parker Road, police said.

The 17-year-old driver of the 1998 Ford Explorer that hit Green “will not be identified due to his age,” police said in a media release.

Green was walking in the road and not on a sidewalk, witnesses told police.

The driver braked in an attempt to avoid the collision, and also tried to help Green after he was hit, police said.

“There is no indication the 17-year-old driver was speeding, consuming alcohol or using a cell phone during the accident,” this morning’s release said.

Investigators “have not been able to determine” why Green “was walking in the roadway instead of the adjacent sidewalk,” the release said.

The driver of the Explorer was driving at 45 mph, the posted speed limit, at the time of the accident, police said.
