A Boulder fire engine on an emergency run collided with a SUV at the intersection of Broadway and Baseline Road early this afternoon in Boulder resulting in a woman being hospitalized.

The fire truck was headed east on Baseline Road with its lights and sirens on when it collided with the SUV, according to Sarah Huntley, spokesperson for the Boulder Police Department.

Huntley said witnesses said the woman was driving northbound on Broadway and had a green light. But unlike other motorists who had stopped for the fire engine, the woman proceeded into the intersection, said Huntley.

After being hit by the fire engine, the SUV spun and hit a light pole on the corner, said Huntley.

The woman complained of back injuries and was taken to a hospital. Huntley said the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. No firefighters were hurt.

A second group of emergency personnel were sent to the original medical call to which the fire engine had been responding, she said.

Huntley said an investigation of the incident is on-going.
