The University of Colorado at Boulder has received a $1 million grant to develop high-temperature materials for hypersonic flight.

The five-year grant is from Teledyne Scientific & Imaging of Thousand Oaks, Calif., which is leading the National Hypersonic Science Center for Materials and Structures that is being launched this fall.

Hypersonic flight is flying at speeds of five times the speed of sound, or about 3,800 mph.
