Eaglecrest provided the biggest surprise Friday night in the Class 5A state football playoffs upsetting No. 4 seed Fort Collins 32-26 to advance to the second round.

The Raptors (5-5), the 29th seed out of 32 teams, jumped out to a 14-6 lead at halftime over the Lambkins (8-2), but found themselves trailing midway through the fourth quarter, 26-21.

A 46-yard touchdown run by C.J. Morgan put the Raptors up by six with four minutes remaining. Fort Collins took over and drove the field, but Eaglecrest stopped the Lambkins on fourth down with 30 seconds remaining to hold on for the victory.

Eaglecrest’s Marquis Coleman rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns.

Mullen 44, Boulder 0.

Top-seeded Mullen went to work early on Boulder, running up a 34-0 lead in the first quarter. The victory was the 15th in a row for the Mustangs.

Cherry Creek 23, Chatfield 7.

The Bruins (5-5) scored 23 unanswered points after giving up a touchdown late in the first quarter. Quarterback Kain Colter ran for a touchdown and threw for a touchdown in the upset victory over the Chargers (6-4).

Arvada West 47, Gateway 6.

Arvada West’s Gavin Glanz threw for 273 yards and five touchdowns to knock the Olympians out of the postseason. The senior completed 11-of-13 passes and threw no interceptions.

Receiver Isaac Fairbairn caught three passes, all for touchdowns.

Pomona 41, Mountain Range 8.

Pomona (9-1) had little trouble advancing to the second round of the D Region with an easy victory over the Mustangs (3-7).

Columbine 56, George Wash. 0.

The Rebels (7-3) rushed for 299 yards and the defense held George Washington (5-5) to 93 yards of total offense at Jeffco Stadium.

Columbine running back Phil Romero keyed the ground attack rushing for 142 yards on just eight carries and scored on runs of 37, 26, and 47 yards. Demetrius McDondle added 90 yards on 15 carries, scoring twice.

Fairview 21, Central (G.J.) 7.

Fairview notched its 10th consecutive victory, thanks to the arm of quarterback Ben Shumacher. Schumacher went 10-for-18 for 202 yards and passed for three touchdowns, two of which were caught by Kenny Bell for 40 and 50 yards. The touchdown grabs were Bell’s only receptions.

Rock Canyon 28, Pueblo West 21.

In Class 4A, Rock Canyon upset Pikes Peak League rival and No. 8-ranked Pueblo West to improve to 8-2 on the season and 3-2 in league.

Valor Christian 22, D’Evelyn 20.

The No. 4 Eagles (10-0) capped off their perfect regular season by outlasting a furious fourth-quarter comeback by No. 5 D’Evelyn (8-2). Valor Christian clinched the Metro (3A) League crown.

G. Central 41, Fossil Ridge 28.

According to the Greeley Tribune, Greeley Central senior Cody Sandau was taken by stretcher to an ambulance after he lay motionless after attempting to make a tackle in the third quarter. He suffered a strained neck.
