VAIL — A man opened fire Saturday night at the Sandbar Sports Grill in West Vail, killing one person and wounding two others.

The town of Vail has identified the suspect as Richard Moreau, 63, of Vail. Moreau was being held in the town jail. Moreau is described as a bar regular.

Witnesses told the Vaily Daily a man was being escorted out of the bar when he fired several shots. He then re-entered the bar and fired several more, witnesses said.

Witnesses told the newspaper they heard about 10 shots.

John Aloe said he was sitting in the northwest corner of the bar watching the Florida-Vanderbilt college football game on television.

He said he heard sounds, and “we thought it was fireworks.” He said that people then starting rushing toward the back door.

He said there was no screaming, but from the look on people’s faces, he knew something serious was happening.

Witnesses had gathered Saturday night at a nearby McDonald’s restaurant. They were being interviewed by two victims advocates.
