If the keys to your Cat, Volvo or John Deere construction loader are missing or were stolen, the Firestone Police Department would like to know about it.

Seems that someone last month stole a Cat loader from the Milavec Lake Park area of Frederick, drove it across the street to Adams Bank and Trust in Firestone and proceeded to create mayhem.

The suspects, who a key that started the loader, maneuvered the machine through the bank’s drive-thru, crushed the ATM machine and removed its safe.

Not long after the 11:30 p.m. Oct. 18 assault on the ATM, the safe – with the money still inside – was found in the bucket of the loader at Milavec Lake.

A bunch of keys were left on the loader — including the one used to start the vehicle.

But the keys don’t belong to the owner of the loader, and now the Firestone Police Department is trying to return the keys to their rightful owners.

More importantly, said Detective Pattie Dixon, the Firestone Police Department would like to catch the smash-and-grab ATM thieves.

Dixon said that although the safe and money were recovered, the would-be Cat burglars caused a lot of damage to the ATM and surrounding area.

People with information about the attempted heist, or have missing keys to loaders or backhoes, are asked to call Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or the website: .

Information leading to an arrest and filing of charges could result in a reward of up to $1,000. Howard Pankratz: 303-954-1939 or hpankratz@denverpost.com
