DENVER—The Colorado Board of Education is reviewing model content standards that could result in sweeping changes to public education.

The board considered drafts of model content standards in 13 areas during a meeting Wednesday. The proposal includes such subjects as civics, economics, geography, history, math and music. The Department of Education says the public submitted more than 8,000 comments on the proposals.

The standards represent what educators believe students should know at various points in their education. The state currently tests students only on reading, writing, math and science.

The board is scheduled to consider adoption of the new standards in December.
