A federal magistrate judge fined Cargill Meat Solutions Corp. $200,000 for violating a permit for how much bacteria it could discharge from a wastewater-treatment facility in Fort Morgan.

The company also was sentenced Friday to pay $250 to a fund for crime victims, and it entered an agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency on steps to prevent another violation. The steps include staff training, mechanical upgrades to its wastewater- treatment operation, and reassignment of employees responsible for the violations.
