She’s a “Stud Finder”
The DIY Network believes “America’s next home-improvement star” is right here in Colorado. Denverite Kayleen McCabe, 29, beat out more than 1,000 other entrants in the Stud Finder 2009 competition. McCabe’s prize? Her very own DIY Network show. “Women often feel intimidated by tools,” says McCabe, who became a renovation enthusiast after remodeling her own kitchen at age 20. “There’s no reason to be! We are just as capable, if not more creative, than men.” The DIY Network (Comcast channel 277) will air an hour-long Stud Finder 2009 special featuring McCabe at 7 p.m. on November 20. “Renovation Rescue” is McCabe’s new DIY Network show, and is currently in production. McCabe’s mission? To save stalled renovation projects. If you’d like to be considered for “Renovation Rescue,” message rescue@highnoontv.com.
Food drive and free coffee
KB Home Colorado has teamed up with the Food Bank of the Rockies to collect canned goods and other nonperishable food items for needy families during the holidays. KB Home will collect donations at all of its Denver-area communities through Nov. 22. Anyone who makes a donation of five or more items will receive a $5 coffee card. Do-it-yourself destination
Rockler Woodworking and Hardware is ramping up its free demonstration schedule. Today is “Dust Collection Day,” which means tips and product demonstrations for keeping a woodworking workspace clean; Nov. 21 is the “Festool on Demand” demonstration, featuring live power-tool instruction. “If someone with very basic woodworking skills needs a new bookshelf,” says store manager Rich Johnson, “they quickly realize how weak the choices are at local big-box stores. For the same money —or less— they can create a piece that matches their current furniture and will still be around years from now to hand down to the kids.” 2553 S.
