University of Colorado distance runner Jenny Barringer claimed another title Saturday, leading the CU women to first place at the NCAA cross country Mountain Regional at the University of New Mexico golf course. The Buffalo men also automatically qualifed for the NCAA championships with a second-place finish, ending their streak of six straight regional titles. Barringer’s victory was the first regional win for a CU woman cross country runner since Renee Metivier in 2004.

• Colorado College’s Jackson Brainerd won the Division III West Regional in Claremont, Calif., coming from behind in the last 5 meters to overtake Occidental’s Eric Kleinsasser. The CC men finished third, the Tigers’ women 14th.

Mines women’s soccer team upsets Fort Lewis.

Kayla Mitchell scored the winning goal and assisted on the other as the Colorado Mines women’s soccer team beat Fort Lewis 2-1 in an NCAA Tournament second-round game in Durango.

Mitchell assisted on Allison Heeg’s score in the eighth minute. The Skyhawks’ Hayley Hollenga tied the game in the 20th minute. Mitchell’s decisive goal came in the 40th minute, an unassisted tally after Fort Lewis goalkeeper Christine Schmelze misplayed the ball.

Air Force ties Holy Cross.

Matt Fairchild scored a power-play goal and Paul Weisgarber added a short-handed goal 96 seconds later as the Air Force men’s hockey team tied Holy Cross 2-2 at the Hart Center in Worcester, Mass.

Holy Cross outshot Air Force 30-22, and Andrew Volkening stopped 28 shots, with the Falcons keeping Holy Cross scoreless on six power-play opportunities.

Colorado College alone in first place.

Colorado College scored two power-play goals, including the game-winner by Nate Prosser at 3:55 of the third period, to beat Minnesota State 3-2 for a road sweep of their Western Collegiate Hockey Association series.

The win, combined with North Dakota’s loss to St. Cloud State, leaves the Tigers (7-2-1, 6-1-1 WCHA) alone in first place in the conference.

Ryan Lowery gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead, but MSU (3-6-1, 1-6-1) tied it on Mike Louwerse’s goal at 15:46 of the first period.

Roadrunners take volleyball crown.

Amy Watanabe of Littleton had 35 digs, and Bri Morley of Parker had 20 kills and 13 digs, helping lead Metro State over Nebraska-Kearney to win the RMAC volleyball championship. The No. 23 Roadrunners defeated No. 3 Nebraska-Kearney 3-2 (13-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19, 15-9) to win their fifth championship since 2001.

CSU volleyball clinches Mountain West title.

Colorado State’s volleyball team clinched the Mountain West Conference title with a five-set win at BYU, 21-25, 25-23, 20-25, 27-25 and 15-12. Coupled with TCU’s loss earlier in the day at UNLV, the Rams (22-4, 14-1 MWC) won the league title for 11th time in program history. Junior outside hitter Danielle Minch had 21 kills to pace the Rams, who next play Saturday at home against UNLV.
