Who knew “Meep!” was a four-letter word?
The utterance favored by bungling lab assistant Beaker of “The Muppet Show” has been banned at Danvers High School in Massachusetts after students said it to repeatedly interrupt school.
Principal Thomas Murray said the word was part of a disruption planned using Facebook.
The Salem News reported that parents recently got an automated call about “Meep!” from Murray. He warned them that students who said or displayed the word at school could be suspended.
Murray said the warning was needed because students didn’t heed his “reasonable request” to stop the meeping.
Library books returned half a century late

Yellow stream on straw makes green, staff told
A British heritage charity is encouraging employees to help the environment by eschewing indoor toilets and relieving themselves outdoors.
The experiment applies to male gardening staff at Wimpole Hall, a stately home about 50 miles north of London.
The National Trust, which runs the property, said the staffers are being encouraged to urinate on straw that is then placed on compost heaps.
The trust said Friday that the chemical reaction helps the composting process, while the absence of flushing by 10 members of the staff could cut the estate’s water use by almost a third.
Vegas strip club to stop trucking girls around
A Las Vegas strip club has agreed to stop an advertising promotion that involved hauling bikini-clad exotic dancers around in a truck with clear plastic sides.
Larry Beard, marketing director of Deja Vu Showgirls, said Friday that he’s taking his lawyer’s advice and parking the truck.
“We’re going to respect the opinion of the folks that are against it,” Beard told The Associated Press. “We’re going to be good citizens and take it off the street.”
Beard had told AP earlier last week that he was prepared to fight county leaders and others who thought the moving truck promotion was unseemly or unsafe.
“The girls are wearing more than the girls at the swimming pool wear,” Beard said last week. “Even though they’re not stripping and taking their clothes off, I think people are offended because of the idea that they do.”
The truck rolled for 13 nights along the Las Vegas Strip from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m., trying to lure customers to the club. Three sides had windows that weren’t tinted, offering views of the strippers dancing around a stripper pole.
