EAGLE, Colo.—Commercial flights into Eagle County Regional Airport in Colorado were delayed after a Coast Guard plane’s nose gear collapsed upon landing Tuesday.
The HU-25 Falcon jet from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi slid 1,000 feet on the runway before stopping, airport officials said. No injuries were reported.
The Coast Guard said the jet’s five-person crew noticed an abnormal vibration in the nose landing gear before it collapsed. The crew deployed a drogue chute that slowed down the aircraft, which stopped about 500 feet from the end of the runway.
The Coast Guard was investigating what caused the mishap.
The Falcon fleet uses the mountain airport, which is near Vail, for high-altitude training.
The airport’s runway was temporarily closed after the accident, canceling at least two flights by late Tuesday afternoon, county spokeswoman Kris Friel said. All flights Wednesday, except for the first morning departure, were expected to operate as scheduled, she said.
