Three teachers are vying to be Colorado’s teacher of the year, an award that will be announced at a special reception Friday.

The finalists are:

• Justin Darnell, middle school science teacher at Denver’s Bryant-Webster Dual Language K-8.

• Lynn Jackson, fifth-grade teacher at Boulder Valley’s Eldorado K-8.

• Michelle Pearson, middle school technology teacher at Adams 12’s Hulstrom Options School.

The winner is chosen by a five-member committee from a list of nominees of exemplary classroom teachers.

The recipient becomes Colorado’s nominee for National Teacher of the Year honors and serves as a teaching ambassador to communities and organizations across the state and nation.

Nominees are judged on their ability to inspire students of all backgrounds and abilities. They are expected to play an active role in the community.
