The gaggle of geese that have taken up residence on the Buffalo Run Golf Course in Commerce City are not welcome.

So beginning today, the city will be setting off “cracker shells” in hopes that the geese will relocate.

Lt. Chuck Saunier of the Commerce City Police Department said the shells make a very loud noise and are designed to scare, but not harm, the geese.

Saunier said the geese have found the golf course a great spot to feed, but in doing so could “easily destroy this championship course.”

The shells will be set off randomly and infrequently as possible, he added. The permit to ignite the shells is valid between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. from today through Monday, March 29, 2010.
