ASPEN — Aspen police said Wednesday that foul play has not been ruled out in the death of a 54-year-old woman because of the findings from a Pitkin County coroner.

Scott Thompson, deputy coroner, said Cheryl Ann Lurie died of “blunt force trauma to the head. The manner (of death) is undetermined.”

Lurie’s body was discovered beneath spruce trees outside the Pitkin County library Monday morning. The Aspen resident was last seen at Bentley’s, a bar and restaurant at the Wheeler Opera House, at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, according to police. She had started to walk in the direction of her Hunter Creek residence, authorities said.

Her body was found by a passer-by on the north side of the plaza between the library and the Pitkin County Courthouse at about 10:30 a.m. Found 10 to 15 yards away were her coat, one glove and a purse, according to police.
