AIR FORCE ACADEMYLITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Devon Beitzel had a season-high 26 points to lead Northern Colorado to a 70-46 win over Air Force in the championship game of the Reggie Minton Air Force Classic at Clune Arena on Saturday night.
The victory ended the Bears’ 12-game losing streak to the Falcons (2-1) and was Northern Colorado’s first win over Air Force in more than 50 years. UNC’s last win over Air Force came on Feb. 16, 1957.
The Bears (5-0) scored the first 12 points of the game, with Air Force’s first basket coming at the 14:08 mark.
The Falcons were 0-for-17 from 3-point range and shot just 32.6 percent from the field in the loss.
Evan Washington led Air Force with 14 points.
Women
E. Illinois 74, N. Colorado 70
Ta’Kenya Nixon scored five points in the final three minutes to lead the Eastern Illinois women’s basketball team to a win over Northern Colorado in the consolation round of the Preseason WNIT.
The Panthers trailed UNC most of the game but staged a 15-2 run in the final 4:45.
Nixon had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Courtney Stoermer led the Bears (0-3) with 18 points. Whitley Cox and Lauren Oosdyke each scored 14.
