Colorado State junior outside hitter Danielle Minch on Tuesday was named the Mountain West Conference volleyball player of the year after helping lead the Rams to a league championship.
Minch, a former standout at Sterling High School, led the MWC in kills per set and ranked second in kills per game and points per set.
Rams coach Tom Hilbert was named coach of the year for the seventh time in his career.
DU hockey’s Colborne, Cheverie honored.
The Western Collegiate Hockey Association honored Denver forward Joe Colborne and goaltender Marc Cheverie as players of the week after they helped lead the Pioneers to a weekend sweep of North Dakota.
AFA cuts ties with volleyball coach.
Air Force said it will not retain veteran women’s volleyball coach Penny Lucas-White next season after her contract expires in December. Lucas-White is 97-302 in 14 seasons at the academy. The Falcons finished their Mountain West campaign this season with an 8-21 record.
CU’s Spears picks up Big 12 honor.
The Big 12 Conference on Monday tabbed Colorado junior Brittany Spears as one of its players of the week. She had 27 points and 13 rebounds against Minnesota on Sunday.
