ASPEN, Colo.—Aspen is changing its bah-humbug attitude toward holiday construction.

The resort town has lifted a ban on construction during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, the peak of Aspen’s tourist season.

The vote by the Aspen city council comes as the economy has cooled the once-sizzling construction market. Aspen previously banned some construction work in tourist-heavy areas because visitors didn’t like the noise and grime. Builders said the ban hurt business.

City Engineer Tricia Aragon said that holiday week construction will still be banned in what city officials call the town’s “central resort area.”
