A 44-year-old woman is in critical condition at Saint Anthony Central after being repeatedly stabbed early today two miles southeast of Breckenridge.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Department responded to Illinois Gulch Road at approximately 1:55 a.m. on a report of a domestic violence in progress, according to Pam Henderson, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s department.
When deputies arrived they found both the woman, whose identity is not being released, and Steven Carter, 31, unconscious from multiple stab wounds. They were found in a common hallway of the Wildflower complex, said Henderson.
Henderson said the woman was airlifted to St. Anthony Central and underwent several hours of surgery.
Carter, who authorities say appears to have repeatedly stabbed himself, is also in critical condition at St. Anthony Central, according to Henderson.
Carter is currently in custody at the hospital. He is under investigation for attempted second-degree murder, domestic violence and violation of bail bond conditions.
Henderson said that although Carter knew the woman authorities are not sure of their exact relationship.
