A 64-year-old semi driver has been cited after his semi struck a GMC farm truck on Interstate 76, causing the farm vehicle to roll and killing the driver.
Cited for careless driving causing death was Edward Rose of Akron.
The Colorado State Patrol said Rose was driving a 1992 red Freightliner with a semi trailer at the time of the accident at 4:05 p.m. Tuesday.
According to a release from Trooper Ryan Sullivan, Rose was traveling westbound on I-76 in Weld County and was attempting to pass Norman Troudt, 73, of Wiggins when the Freightliner struck the left rear of Troudt’s 1966 white GMC farm truck.
The collision propelled Troudt’s GMC off the road where it rolled. Troudt was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash and subsequent investigation caused westbound I-76 to be closed for several hours.
Rose, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured. Troudt was not wearing a seatbelt, according to Sullivan.
Alcohol and drugs are not suspected as contributing factors.
Troudt’s relatives have been notified of his death.
