Ahmad Bradshaw’s status for tonight’s game at Invesco Field at Mile High has gone from “we’ll see” to “see you when we get back.”
The Giants running back has played through a sore ankle and cracked bone in his right foot. But he has been ruled out of the game against the Broncos, mostly because of a sprained left ankle suffered Sunday in a game against the Falcons.
Bradshaw did not travel with the team Wednesday.
Danny Ware, a third-string running back who played mostly on third-down situations against the Falcons, will move up the depth chart and is expected to take Bradshaw’s share of the carries behind Brandon Jacobs (who also is coming off a game in which he injured his knee and did not return). The Giants will likely activate Gartrell Johnson, a rookie running back from Colorado State.
Roethlisberger practices
PITTSBURGH — Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger practiced despite suffering a concussion against Kansas City and is expected to play Sunday in Baltimore.
While Roethlisberger went through a usual Wednesday practice, second-year quarterback Dennis Dixon took more snaps than usual. Dixon moved up the depth chart when backup Charlie Batch broke his left wrist during the 27-24 loss to the Chiefs.
Safety Troy Polamalu (left knee ligament) did not participate in the team’s workout.
Elam given reprieve
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Kicker Jason Elam, mired in a slump, will continue playing for the Falcons, though the relationship is tenuous after the team brought in four kickers for a tryout Tuesday.
Coach Mike Smith decided to stick with Elam — for now.
“I’m probably down to my last miss,” Elam acknowledged in a candid self-assessment. “Another miss and I’m probably done. I understand that.”
Elam, 39, has made only 6-of-12 field goals from at least 30 yards.
Warner expects to play
TEMPE, Ariz. — Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner went through a full practice and said he plans to play Sunday at Tennessee.
Warner, 38, said he passed the required mental tests Tuesday with “no problems neurologically at all” after suffering a concussion in Sunday’s 21-13 victory at St. Louis.
“From what they told me, I tested better than I did four years ago, so I’m just getting smarter with age,” he said jokingly.
• Arizona rookie linebacker Will Davis will be sidelined four to six weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.
Footnotes.
The Jets demoted safety Kerry Rhodes in favor of Eric Smith.
• Chiefs cornerback Maurice Leggett is out for the season with a shoulder injury.
• Rams running back Steven Jackson (back spasms) said he expects to play Sunday against Seattle.
• With Clinton Portis sidelined indefinitely with a concussion and Ladell Betts out for the season with a knee injury, Rock Cartwright has inherited the starting running back job with the Redskins.
