DUMONT, Colo.—An early morning fire in Clear Creek County seriously injured one man and damaged three homes.

Neighbors saw the fire in Dumont, west of Idaho Springs, before 5 a.m. on Thanksgiving. About an hour later witnesses heard explosions, possibly because the fire ignited propane tanks or gas tanks in cars.

Clear Creek County Sheriff Don Krueger told KUSA-TV that one person was severely burned in the fire and was airlifted to a hospital in Denver.

Authorities say at least a half dozen other people were able to escape from the homes.

There was no immediate cause given for the blaze.

The American Red Cross said two of the homes were destroyed, and the blaze claimed the tools belonging to a contraction worker.
