Boulder police today released four photos of the man who used a rental truck to help dislodge the ATM machine at the Chase Bank, 6300 Gunpark Drive, about 2 a.m. Wednesday in an apparent attempt to get a little cash before the holiday.
The pictures show that the man carefully drove the back of the rental truck up to the ATM, then hopped out and fastened chain to the machine.
The incident was discovered when officers went to the bank on an audible alarm.
They found that the ATM had been dragged about 15 to 20 feet and had been upended.
Wires were sticking up from the ground and heavy chain was wrapped around the machine.
The would-be thief, possibly frightened by the alarm, took no money from the machine.
The U-Haul truck was recovered a short distance away, in the 6500 block of Gunpark Drive on Wednesday afternoon. It had been reported stolen in Boulder County.
Anyone with information about this incident or the suspect is asked to call Detective Tom Dowd at 303-441-3300. Those who have information but wish to remain anonymous should contact the Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or 1-800-444-3776. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered that lead to an arrest and filing of charges against the suspect.
