A heated Thanksgiving afternoon family argument led to a 76-year-old father fatally shooting his son, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said.
The dead man was identified as Keith Oliver, 49, of Denver, who had driven to the town of Security to visit his father and mother, said Lt. Lari Sevene, spokesperson for the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
Sevene said the two men began arguing inside the house over a number of family-related issues, and the argument escalated and spilled into the home’s garage.
There, Sevene said, the 76-year-old man, identified as Aylais Oliver, shot his son with a handgun. Keith Oliver’s mother called 911.
The shooting occurred in the 4000 block of Oberding Drive, in unincorporated El Paso County.
Aylais Oliver is being held for investigation of first-degree murder.
