AURORA, Colo.—On what would have been her 11th birthday, activists who work to stop child abuse gathered in Aurora to remember a little girl whose body was never found.

Child advocates, police and prosecutors attended the candlelight vigil Monday for Aarone (AIR’-uh-nay) Thompson.

Her father, Aaron Thompson, reported her missing in 2005 but later acknowledged the girl was dead. He blamed his late live-in girlfriend for Aarone’s death.

Aaron Thompson was convicted this fall of charges including fatal child abuse and was sentenced to 114 years in prison. He hasn’t said what happened to Aarone’s body.
