If you plan on shopping online today, you will have a lot of company.

The number of Cyber Monday shoppers this year is expected to set a record.

According to a survey conducted for Shop.org by BIGresearch, 11.5 million more Americans plan to shop online Monday compared to last year.

Computer expert and lawyer Sterling Cain from Aspect Technologies, Inc. in Denver said, “You don’t want to be a victim of identity theft because of a $10 deal on a TV.”

Cain’s first suggestion to online shoppers is to update your software.

Cain says that includes updating your antivirus.

Also, make sure the site you are visiting is reputable and secure.

Cain suggests using a credit card, not a debit card when making your purchase.

The majority of Cyber Monday online shopping will be done from home, but a Shop.org survey says about 14 percent, or 13 million people, will do their shopping today from work.
