Tommelfest; at Devil’s Thumb Ranch near Tabernash; season kickoff celebration includes free lessons from the University of Denver nordic team and live music; $12 per person (includes food); 11 a.m.

Dec. 19-20

• Cross country ski and snowshoe season kickoff; sponsored by the Colorado Cross Country Ski Association and participating nordic centers and ranch resorts; Nordic Buck Certificates offer deals for skiers and snowshoers, beginners to experts; rental equipment available.

• Cross country ski and snowshoe weekend; at Devil’s Thumb Ranch near Tabernash; 9 a.m.
