Holiday shopping at a lumber yard?

Bread ‘n’ Boards offers a chance to buy a cutting board for your favorite cook, and support the Food Bank for Larimer County. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, the woodworkers at Sears Trostel Lumber will sell handmade cutting boards for $25 and up, including a coupon for a loaf of Great Harvest bread and a bottle of finishing oil. Turkey Gumbo revised

A reader called to tell us the recipe last week from Millennium Harvest House called for too much flour and not enough stock. Make the roux with 1/2 cup oil and 1/2 cup flour, and use 2 1/2 quarts (not cups) of chicken stock. It should serve at least 6.

Palisade Art & Chocolate Walk

Stroll, or ride in a surrey through the Western Slope town of Palisade 5-8 p.m. Dec. 11. Local galleries, cafes and shops will host art receptions and serve free chocolate treats. For $5 per round-trip ticket, visitors can travel from gallery to gallery in a 12-person covered surrey, pulled by Percheron draft horses.
