The National Park Service on Thursday ruled the weekend death of B. Holt Vaughn an accident.
Vaughn, a 62-year-old retired social worker from Broomfield, fell more than 400 feet Saturday afternoon from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
Vaughn had strayed off a paved trail in the popular tourist area near Mather Point, got too close to the edge and slipped over, said Maureen Oltrogge, a parks spokeswoman.
A memorial service for Vaughn is at 9:30 a.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1250 Main St. in Broomfield. A Vietnam veteran, he will be buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
