The lady-centric DIY organization , which threw its first big this summer, is continuing its new monthly “happenings” at the warehouse district’s illustrious bar under the moniker “Surfacing.” It’s certainly not the first (or the last) show Titwrench has put together, but it’s got a lot of promise as a regular event.

The second “Surfacing” show, which takes place Thursday, Dec. 10, features live music from , , (who were featured this week on our column), Tit 4 Tat, Via and Sacred Brain.

According to an e-mail from organizer Sarah Slater, the series is named after the Margaret Atwood novel. “The idea came about when Emily Frembgen was booked by Jonathan Bitz at the Meadowlark for a ‘New Female Artist Showcase.’ I decided to give them a call and offered for Titwrench to sponsor and promote the event. He said yes and fully supports our ideas and mission.

The first installment featured Sarina Simoom, Last Eyes, Lelah Simon, Dream Wagon and Emily Frembgen.

“We are hoping that this showcase will reflect the diversity and spirit of Titwrench as well as help keep the momentum going for next summer’s festival,” Slater continued. “In addition, Titwrench is producing a number of dance parties at various spaces around Denver. The music is curated by the Titwrench Art Collective. It will showcase rising talent in Colorado with an eye on the avant-garde, eccentric and experimental. There will be a focus on lady artists but folks of all gender identities will be performing and participating. Everyone is welcome. “We hope to include various mediums video art and Djs in the future…puppeteers, who knows!?”

The next “Surfacing” is January 28, with artists to be announced. Check out for more information on Thursday’s event, which costs $6 at the door.
