Nearing the end of a seven-game road trip, the Colorado Eagles continued to pile up points in a 3-2 shootout victory Sunday over the host Wichita Thunder in a Central Hockey League game.

Aaron Schneekloth, a defenseman, scored in regulation to tie the game at 1-1. Then, as the sixth Colorado shooter in a shootout, he scored the game-winner.

Ryan Tobler also scored for the Eagles, who are 5-1 on this road trip and have outscored opponents 26-17. After a game at Amarillo on Friday, Colorado returns to Loveland to host Odessa on Saturday.

The Eagles (14-4-1) used their road streak to gain control of the Northern Conference. They lead Tulsa (12-6-1) by four points.

Fords have smooth rides.

Briggsdale’s Royce Ford rode Three Hills’ Peaches and Cream to a first-place finish in bareback riding during the fourth round of the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas on Sunday, earning $17,139. Ford’s 87 points topped his cousin, Heath Ford of Greeley, who finished third with 85 points and pocketed $10,228.

Heath Ford is sixth in the world bareback standings, with $131,657. Royce Ford stands in ninth place at $99,142.

Pueblo’s Josh Peek remained third in the all-around world standings at $170,336 after he finished tied for fifth in steer wrestling and was 11th in tie-down roping in the fourth round.
