GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The murder trial of a Whitewater woman accused of killing her husband is headed to the jury.
Fifty-two-year-old Miriam Helmick testified in her own defense last week, breaking into tears as she described the 2008 death of her husband, Alan Helmick.
Prosecutors say the widow shot and killed her husband in their kitchen. Later the widow planted a phony death threat outside her home. She testified that she faked the threat to inspire police to look harder for the killer.
Jurors heard closing statements Monday and were set to deliberate Tuesday. The trial began Nov. 12 in Grand Junction.
